Dumped in the Skunk...

Well, I survived the colonoscopy! Yay! I am so glad that is over. I have to go back next Friday for a follow up, but the Dr. said she thought everything looked good.  The Dr. that did the colonoscopy is my brother-in-law's sister.  I have known her for 30 years, it was nice seeing a familiar face in the operating room.  I guess it was the operating room.  Anyway all is well...now on to other topics.

Keith bought a canoe from my grandboss's boyfriend.  What is a grandboss?  That would be my boss's boss.  I stole that phrase from a friend, who I am sure doesn't mind.  Anyway we got this canoe and finally got it registered we took it out on Geode yesterday to be sure that it didn't leak.  It didn't, so today we took it out on the Skunk River.  Last October Keith rented a canoe and he and his daughter went down the Skunk, he said it took them about 4 hours to get to Lowell, so we thought we would get up and head on over and canoe down to Lowell from Oakland Mills, We started at 8:45 am, thinking we would be done at lunch time...

We got started and headed down the river, we had a head wind that slowed us down.  By 11:00 our rears were sore and we weren't real sure where we were at, we came to a rock bar so we decided t stop. The picture above is the rock bar where we stopped.  So we stopped here for a few minutes.  I tried to pee which didn't work because I peed on my shoe.  The we decided to move on, We paddled down a little more it was about an hour and a half later and we came to a sandbar and we decided to stop again because our butts were sore and we still weren't sure how close we were to our (half way) point. (we were supposed to be at the end!!)   We stopped for maybe 10 minutes, then we decided to move on.  So we get into the canoe successfully, then Keith tried to reach for his cooler which was behind him. (he moved it so I could walk to the front of the boat without having to step over it)  Anyway his cooler got stuck on something and he leaned...you shouldn't lean in a canoe..So I am in the front and the canoe is tipping from one side then the other then...Yep, tipped over!  As I was falling into the water, these thoughts quickly passed through my mind.  "We are tipping. I am going to fall in.  I am going under. I am going to drown.  Wait, no I am not, I can touch the bottom"  Then I hear Keith telling me, "Dawn you are Okay, Get your bag, You are okay get your bag"  He kept saying that until I got my bag.  Then I grabbed my bag, and felt my pocket and said.,"Oh crap my cell phone."  I grabbed my stuff and marched off onto the sandbar.  I was not a happy camper.  But then my mood changed.  We got the water out of the canoe and hung out on the sandbar for a little bit.  Keith called his mom and asked her if she would meet us at our halfway point with some sandwiches.  So we got back into the canoe and successfully launched  We got to the halfway point and Jeanie met us there with cheese sandwiches, banana bread, apples and water.  Let me tell you that was the best tasting cheese sandwich ever made!  We ate and got back out on the water, we almost tipped again, but I saved the day with my mad balancing skills.  So when Keith and Lindsey made this trip from this point on it took them 2 hours, with the headwind we figured maybe 3.  We pressed on for a little while longer came to another rock bar it was about 2:40, we stopped again at our half of apple and then pressed on.  From this point on we paddled like mad.  Keith said I was Dawn the great paddler from the "Peed Foot" tribe.  Such a sense of humor he has.  I told Keith that I would never be so happy to see Lowell in my entire life.  For those of you reading this who knows Lowell you will find the humor in that statement.  We paddled like crazy, then we went around the bend and I saw the Lowell bridge.  I cheerfully yelled, "Is that it?"  Keith confirmed it was in fact the bridge and we paddled on in there and got out at around 3:30ish. It was a long day, but fun!  Hope you enjoyed reading about our canoeing adventure.  We are sore and burnt!  I asked Keith when our next canoe trip would be, his answer...Not Tomorrow.

The Worst Part is the Prep...

The last time I blogged I was 39, now I am 40! And you know what, it is not that bad being 40.  I think I will always admit to my age and not say I am 39 and holding.  I am getting older and with age comes health stuff.  I have to have a colonoscopy, How the heck do you spell that word????  I looked it up and spelled it the way it said and it is still underlined.  Oh well, who cares how it is spelled.  Anyway, I am a little nervous about this...and yes I know "The worst part is the prep the day before"  If I had a dollar for every time someone said that to me, I could afford to have this procedure done!  lol  I have never been "put under" for anything before and that I why I am nervous.  So if you have a minute and want to say a prayer for me, I would appreciate it.

On a more serious note, a young man who  went to school with my nieces passed away yesterday, he was hit by a car in St. Louis, MO.  He was only 29 years old.  I, personally did not know him well, but several of my facebook friends did. Would you pray for his Mom and his friends.  I'd even say put them before prayers for me and my silly nervousness.  Life is short.  And so I quote Rascal Flatts..Love who you Love...if you are reading this...I love you!
